The 10 Best Albums of 2012
December 20, 2012
In 2012, two albums I produced placed in Rob Sheffield's of Rolling Stone Magazine top 10 best album list.
Japandroid's "Celebration Rock"
Celebration Rock was named as a shortlisted nominee for the 2012 Polaris Music Prize on July 17, 2012. The album also appeared on several year end lists. Spin named it the third best album of 2012, while Paste ranked the album number 8 on their list. Rolling Stone ranked the album number 9 on its list of the top 50 albums of 2012, while Stereogum ranked the album number 7 on its year end list. Pitchfork Media ranked Celebration Rock number 11 on its list of the top 50 albums of 2012
In 2012 I travelled to Cuba to record some of the bands in their newly thriving punk scene for the non-profit organization Solidarity Rock. On my trip I recorded albums for popular Cuban punk bands Arrabio (Trinidad, Cuba) and Adictox (Santa Clara). Arrabio went on to become the first Cuban Punk band to tour Canada and The United States.
I was employed to do the re-recording of their seminal album "incorrect thoughts" entitled "Same Thoughts Different Day" as well as their reunion album "New dark age parade". I was in charge of the restoration of some of their back catalog for the rarities album "death was too kind" released on Alternative Tentacles.
Anciients "Hearts of Oak"
I Recorded and produced this critically acclaimed metal record that saw the band score a record deal with Seasons Of Mist and land supporting slots for bands such as Lamb Of God and Sepultura.
I recorded/produced the first three Bison BC records that saw the band signed to Californian record label Metal Blade Records and tour the world extensively.
I was in charge of all of the recordings for this now legendary Vancouver punk band.
The Pack AD
I was hired to record the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th albums by this popular Vancouver rock duo. The last two of which I engineered for legendary Detroit producer Jim Diamond (The Dirt Bombs, The White Stripes)
Their fourth album "Unpersons" was nominated for "Breakthrough Album Of The Years" at The 2012 Juno's
White Lung "it's the evil" and "sorry"
Exclaim! has named the band's first full length album It's the Evil as 2010's punk album of the year. The band also was nominated for Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group of the Year at the 2011 Canadian Music Week Indie Awards. Placed on rolling stone's top 5 end of year lists.
